Tape to disk simulation identifies requirements for supporting a workload on disk for a user specified number of days (see screen shot 1). Number of data sets (see screen shot 2) and space required (see screen shot 3) is provided for: input, output, mod, recalled (see screen shot 4), migrated, and retained data sets. The simulation data are presented in a manner that permits a user to determine the optimum time a data set or filter list entry should remain on a storage pool, and identify if it is a candidate for migration to ML1 or ML2. While the user may manually determine the optimum manner for supporting data, the system can automatically identify all filter lists and categories to meet overall storage system objectives based on user input. When you run this simulation you should also run a VTS simulation to identify how the workload would perform on VTS.
