The simulator uses analysis data obtained from SMF records via a SAS based extraction program. SMF records types used are: 14, 15, and, 30. The extraction process primarily uses data set name and internal MVS fields that describe the use attributes of tape data sets, jobs, and steps. No user data is required and security considerations relate only to information on the characteristics and use of a data set.

To aide in the extraction of data an ISPF panel is provided. The panel has the ability to limit extracts to specific high level qualifiers and UCB's.

If SAS is not available programs will be provided. However, SAS extraction permits a user to extract specific UCB's or high level qualifiers; this feature is not currently available with program extracts.
